About Beth

My dog grooming career

I've been in the grooming industry since 2013. I completed a two year apprenticeship in dog grooming with a local dog grooming salon and Hengrove college. I then went on to complete a 25 day intermediate dog grooming course under another local groomer, qualifying on 28/9/15.

I then took a business course with The Princes Trust and the National Enterprise Scheme Association and completed an 11 day Advanced grooming course in 2016.

In July 2019 I completed a Level 3 Open College Network diploma in dog grooming at KJG Dog Grooming Academy in Devon,  under whom I annually attend their canine first aid courses and compassionate handling seminars.

In February 2020 I completed my City and Guilds level 2 dog grooming qualification at Canine Design Academy in Shepton Mallet and am currently undertaking the City and Guilds level 3 qualification there which was started in September 2020. I have already undertaken one of my practical exams for this course which I passed with a distinction!

Back in September 2015 I opened my own home based salon, Riverview Dog Grooming, with the sole purpose to provide 1-2-1 professional styles and haircuts tailored to the owners requests, created with love and care towards each individual dog, placing their health and well being above everything else and providing excellent customer service.

I regularly attend many seminars and top up training days across the South West of England to keep up to date on the ever changing skills and styles of the dog grooming industry as well practicing my scissor skills on our new member of the family, 4 month old newfoundland Griswold.

I have recently developed an interest in competing in grooming competitions to increase my knowledge and skills in the industry. Please see my Groomer's Spotlight profile for a list of seminars I have attended as well as achievements and qualifications I hold.

Dogs have always been my passion from a very young age and I always knew I wanted to work with animals. My past pets have included mice, fish, guinea pigs, hens, a hamster and budgerigars. I currently own a 6 year old Bernese mountain dog, Fizz, who is the logo of Riverview Dog Grooming and a 10 year old budgie named Cody. In my spare time, my hobbies include collecting tattoos and body piercings, video gaming and hanging out with Fizz.

I also show Fizz at Championship level under my Kennel Club approved affix Takodabern, earning many placings and qualifying for Crufts 3 times! After falling head over heals for the breed after a chance meeting at a fun dog show in my teens, I was soon bitten by the show bug and it has become my goal in the future to breed and show Bernese mountain dogs to improve the health and temperament of the breed under my Takodabern affix and to produce dogs as close to The Kennel Club breed standard as possible.
