Dogs have always been my passion from a very young age and I always knew I wanted to work with animals. My past pets have included mice, fish, guinea pigs, hens, a hamster and budgerigars. I currently own a 5 year old Bernese mountain dog, Fizz, who is the logo of Riverview Dog Grooming and an 9 year old budgie named Cody. In my spare time, my hobbies include collecting tattoos and ear piercings, video gaming and bonding activities with Fizz; scentwork, yoga, hydrotherapy and trick training. I also show Fizz at Championship level under my Kennel Club approved affix Takodabern, earning many placings and qualifying for Crufts 3 times! It is my goal in the future to breed and show Bernese mountain dogs to improve the health and temperament of the breed under my Takodabern affix.
My dog grooming career
I've been in the grooming industry since 2013. I completed a two year apprenticeship in dog grooming with a local dog grooming salon and Hengrove college. I then went on to complete a 25 day intermediate dog grooming course under another local groomer, qualifying on 28/9/15.
I then took a business course with The Princes Trust and the National Enterprise Scheme Association and completed an 11 day Advanced grooming course in 2016.
In July 2019 I completed a Level 3 Open College Network diploma in dog grooming at KJG Dog Grooming Academy in Devon, run by Kelly Gayler, under whom I annually attend her canine first aid courses and compassionate handling seminars. In February 2020 I completed my City and Guilds level 2 dog grooming qualification in at Canine Design Academy in Shepton Mallet and will be starting my City and Guilds level 3 qualification there in September 2020. I regularly attend many seminars across the South West of England to keep up to date on the ever changing skills and styles of the dog grooming industry.
In September 2015 I opened my own home based salon, Riverview Dog Grooming, with the sole purpose to provide 1-2-1 professional styles and haircuts tailored to the owners requests, created with love and care towards each individual dog, placing their health and well being above everything else and providing excellent customer service.
As of 2018 I am an official member of The British Isles Grooming Association and iPet Network. I have been insured since 2015 under Simply Business and I have been Canine First Aid trained since August 2017 which I attend refreshers courses for annually.
